Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson are set to adopt.The ’Proposal’ actor - who married the ’Lost In Translation star last September - dreams of giving a home to a disadvantaged child because of his own upbringing with an adopted sibling. He revealed: "My oldest brother is adopted and I have every intention of adopting at some time. I’m very grateful for having my brother in my life. I couldn’t be more pro-adoption. There are plenty of kids in the world that need it." Although Ryan is now very close to his three brothers, he admits they didn’t always get on as youngsters. He added to Britain’s Glamour magazine: "I learnt how to take a punch from a very early age. I was routinely pummelled into a fine cottage cheese." The 32-year-old star also enjoys a close relationship with his parents and says he shares a lot of their traits. He explained: "I have my father’s face and body, but my mother’s unshakeable thirst for knowledge. She works part-time jobs but basically she’s been a student her whole life. LA Shorts Fest 2009 (July 23-31) promises to be particularly star-studded, with Courteney Cox, Demi Moore and Scarlett Johansson all expected to attend.The festival will open with Cox’s The Monday Before Thanksgiving starring Laura Dern; plus the world premiere of Johansson’s directorial debut These Vagabond Shoes, starring Kevin Bacon. Writer Kirsten ‘Kiwi’ Smith, who worked on The House Bunny, Legally Blonde and The Ugly Truth, makes her directorial debut with The Spleenectomy starring Anna Farris.
Scarlett Johansson recently told Entertainment Weekly that she and her new husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, don’t discuss their careers when they’re chilling at home.Johansson and Reynolds married in a private ceremony last fall, and they believe that by not bringing work home and chatting about movie making, they allow each other to simply be themselves. Said Reynolds, “We don’t have a lot of work talk around the house. We both prefer to just be ourselves at home. There’s no competition between us - we just don’t talk about it.”
